Health & Safety – Human Resources Coordinator
Peerless Limited is a specialty trailer manufacturer for the oil and gas, forestry and construction markets located in Penticton, British Columbia.
We are currently recruiting a Full Time Permanent Health & Safety/Human Resources Coordinator $68K – $80K based on experience and qualifications.
Peerless is offering a $1,000.00 signing bonus to the successful incumbent
- $700.00 paid upon completion of probationary period
- $300.00 paid upon 150 days worked afterwards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Health and Safety:
- Oversight for the COR/OSSE program and annual audit
- Oversight for the training requirements for all job functions, tracking records
- Oversight for monthly site inspections and ensures timely corrective actions.
- Chairs monthly JH&S committee meetings and publishes minutes
- Prepares monthly and weekly Toolbox talk program covering H&S topics
- WorkSafe BC claims management, appeals and return-to-work
- New employee orientations, hazard assessments, site tours, training, etc.
- Conducts daily site inspection
- Champion all health and safety policies and procedures
- Oversight and upkeep of Safety Opportunity log
- Weekly updates of Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s)
Human Resources:
- Manage the recruitment process by posting jobs internally and externally, sourcing candidates, conducting interviews and reference checks, setting up pre-employment testing and orientations.
- Responsible for new hire, orientation, layoff/recall processing
- Prepare employment contracts and other employee correspondence
- Tracking of various staff allowances and Service Awards Program
- Daily update and maintenance of various Vacation and Attendance spreadsheets
- Employee file maintenance
- Administration of benefits programs
- Manage short/long term disability claims
- Assist managers and employees with company policies, compensation, and benefits
- Update and maintain seniority lists
- Act as liaison for union matters
- Monitor and ensure company compliance with changing employment laws and company policies
Requirements
Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma
- Health & Safety or Human Resources: 1 year experience (Required)
- Previous experience in an HR role, preferably in a unionized environment
- Excellent Microsoft Office skills
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be adept at managing multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment while ensuring confidentiality and effective time management
- Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from employees and management in a professional manner
- Ability to effectively present information to management and employees

Reporting to the A&E Supervisor, the education and skills required will include:
- Experience as a General Laborer or Helper
- Class 5 Driver’s License
- Forklift and Bobcat experience would be an asset
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools
- Safety-conscious attitude
- Ability to recognize and evaluate problems and contribute to their solution
- Ability to perform assigned tasks efficiently and within the parameters of company policies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
This is a union position with a starting wage of $21.53 – $23.58 pending on experience per the Collective Agreement.
